About the Chrome Ore

Chrome is one of the most widely used metals in modern industries. In metallurgical industries, chrome ore is mainly used to produce ferrochromium alloys and metallic chromium.
There are about 30 chromium-bearing minerals in nature, but only chrome ore has industrial value. Chrome ore is mainly composed of oxides of iron, magnesium, and chromium, with a theoretical chemical formula of (Fe, Mg)Cr2O4.

Processing Technology

The dressability of chrome ore mainly depends on the grade, purity, disseminated particle size, and the composition and quantity of associated gangue minerals. Commonly used beneficiation methods include gravity separation, magnetic separation, electrostatic separation, and flotation. Among them, gravity separation is the most widely used.

  • Crushing and screening

    • The raw ore is crushed to a suitable particle size by a jaw crusher (coarse crushing) and a cone crusher (medium and fine crushing).
    • Different particle sizes are formed by sieving, which prepares for subsequent classification and separation.
  • Grinding and classification

    • For ores with fine particle size that require individual separation, a closed-circuit grinding system is constructed by combining a ball mill with a spiral classifier or hydrocyclone.
  • Gravity Separation

    • Coarse-grained grade (+1mm): Usually directly enters the jig for separation.
    • Medium and fine particles (-1mm): enter the spiral sluice for roughing and scavenging, and the resulting rough concentrate is then fed into the shaking table for fine selection to obtain high-grade concentrate.
  • Dewatering

    • The concentrate is dewatered through a thickener and a filter to obtain the final product.
    • Tailings are transported to tailings dams for safe storage.
